INFORMATION THAT WAS PROVIDED TO STUDENT FAMILIES DURING THE 2022-2023 SCHOOL YEAR:
On Friday, March 24, 2023, North Hills Church, K-12 School, and Preschool will be doing several different service projects in the city of Vallejo as part of the North Hills Service Project Day. Classes from preschool through high school will choose a service project to undertake, along with individuals from the church doing additional service projects. The goal of this day is to make the Vallejo community a better place by sharing God’s love in tangible ways.
March 24, 2023, is a calendared school day at North Hills. While there are numerous school days students are in class learning, the North Hills Service Project Day is a special day when students have the opportunity to apply what they have been learning in the community. The mission of North Hills is to love God, serve others, and change the world. March 24, 2023, will be a special, memorable day when all of North Hills does exactly this.
What do students need to wear on March 24?
There are two choices: 1) they can wear their school uniform, or 2) they can wear a special North Hills Service Project Day t-shirt. The special t-shirts will be available to purchase for $10.00. For those who purchase a t-shirt, they can wear jeans.
What do parents/guardians need to wear on March 24?
There are two choices: 1) they can wear whatever they want as long as it aligns with the values of North Hills, or 2) they can wear a special North Hills Service Project Day t-shirt. The special t-shirts will be available to purchase for $10.00.
Can classes combine to do the same service project (for example, both of the 4th grade classes decide to team up and pick up trash at a local park)?
Yes. It is up to each class to decide which service project they want to do. If they want to do their own service project, they can do so. If they want to team up with another class, they can also do so.
Do the service projects need to start at the beginning of the school day?
No. They can start and end at any time during the school day, based on what service project has been chosen and how long it takes to accomplish.
Can it be longer than the school day (i.e., before school starts and/or after school ends)?
No, it cannot.
Where do the students (and adults coming) meet on the day of the North Hills Service Project Day?
It depends on the service project. It may be best to meet at North Hills or it might be best to meet at the service project location. The teacher of each class will provide these details.
When a class finishes its service project, what do they do?
For K-12 students, they go home. The school day lasts as long as the service project does. For preschool students, it is a regular school day.
What does everyone do for lunch?
It is up to each class. If any cost is involved, it will be communicated by the teacher.
Who will provide water for a long service project?
It is up to each class. They can 1) request funding for water bottles, 2) raise their own funds for water bottles, or 3) bring their own water bottles from home.
What if someone gets hurt during the service project?
Each class is to bring a first aid kit with them.
Is it required that a student has a family member/guardian be with them at the North Hills Service Project Day?
For K-12 students, yes. There are three primary reasons for this:
1) Family members/guardians will be central in transporting students on the big day
2) Family members/guardians will help support their child’s teacher
3) Family members/guardians will be actively participating in the service project alongside their child
For Preschool students, it depends on the service project being done. All family members/guardians are welcome to come. If it is required, it will be communicated by the teacher.
What is the minimum age a family member/guardian must be?
The person must be at least 25 years old.
What if any students misbehave during the service project?
Family members/guardians are to support the teacher in addressing any behavioral issues.
What if the family member/guardian has two or more students?
It will be up to the family member/guardian to choose which student he/she wants to go with.
Will parents/guardians get Family Service Hours?
Yes. They will need to fill out the form and have it signed.
What if I have questions that are not addressed above?
Please contact your student’s teacher. For middle/high school students, it is their 6th period teacher.
